About Jane

Jane is a solicitor with over thirty years’ experience of working on financial and serious and general crime matters, related regulatory investigations, inquests and public inquiries. She was a partner at a leading London boutique practice for twenty-four years until, post pandemic, she took time off to consider her career. She has now returned to the profession as an Independent (Freelance) Solicitor.

Prior to her break, Jane was ranked in Band 1 of Chambers HNW Directory for Financial Crime each year from 2016 (the first year of publication) until 2021.

She has, over the years, worked on numerous sensitive, complex, and high-profile matters.

Jane has always been completely committed to ensuring the best possible outcome for her clients by working extremely hard on matters herself whilst deploying a) judgment gained from wide experience b) focussed energy c) attention to detail and d) empathetic pragmatism.

To that end, she has, throughout her career, worked closely and collaboratively with other members of a client’s team including first class:

  • lawyers from other practice areas, including family, commercial and reputation management,

  • other subject matter experts, including health care professionals.

As a result, she has developed long standing professional relationships with many highly respected and talented practitioners.

Jane has always been very mindful of the stressful nature of the areas in which she practises, and sensitive to the possible effect on the mental and emotional health of her clients, and that of those close to them. Post pandemic, she views this as a critical issue which needs to be kept under close consideration.

Experience

  • Instructed on numerous matters, many high-profile, which, in addition to Jane’s areas of expertise, involved an understanding of other areas e.g. Reputation Management, PR, Family Law and working with experts in those areas.
  • In the financial crime field, allegations of tax evasion, market manipulation, insider dealing, theft, false accounting, fraud by false representation and abuse of position, conspiracy to defraud, bribery and horse race fixing.
  • In the serious and general crime field, allegations of neglect of duty in the army, phone hacking, different types of sexual misconduct, assault, harassment, public order breaches, computer misuse and perverting the course of justice.
  • Regulatory inquiries/ proceedings linked to investigations and/ or prosecutions.
  • Advice on many matters which did not result in charges, often after having made detailed representations to the police and/ or decision makers against charge.
  • Advising individuals/ entities on reporting allegations of criminal wrongdoing, or who had been approached to provide evidence.
  • Experience of high profile Inquest and Public Inquiry Work
  • As a result of this work, Jane has wide experience of dealing with many agencies including the SFO, CPS, FCA, HMRC and various police forces, as well as Coroners offices and Public Inquiry personnel.
